Professional Experience
In 1984, Madeleine founded Interior Planning + Design, based in Park City, Utah, undertaking a variety of residential and commercial interior design projects. In 1990, she closed the company in order to study architecture, subsequently receiving professional degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels at the Rhode Island School of Design and Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.
In 1994, Madeleine joined the New York City offices of the internationally active architecture firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill [SOM] as a Designer in their Interiors department and was involved in a wide range of large scale corporate projects, among which were the design of facilities for General Motors, Texaco, Airgas and Goldman Sachs.
Having been approached by the Director and Chief Curator of the Los Angeles based Ace Gallery, Madeleine accepted the position of Director of Operations for the Ace Gallery New York in 1997, assisting the Chief Director in the production of numerous architecturally scaled gallery exhibitions for well established contemporary artists including Sol LeWitt, Ulrich Rückriem, Jannis Kounellis and Tim Hawkinson, as well as special presentations of works by Robert Rauschenberg in conjunction with the Guggenheim Museum, and by Issey Miyake in association with the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain.
Returning in 1999 to architectural and design pursuits, Madeleine established MMTNYC, her New York City based boutique design practice. MMTNYC’s typical project parameters range from preliminary conceptual design and strategy through project flow to completion with a focus on high end interiors.
Madeleine has lived and worked in New York City since 1993 with her husband, sculptor and builder Thomas Beckman, and maintains a satellite studio, MMTSLC, in her hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah.
